Flushing of Fire Hydrants in July 2025
6/18/2025
In the interest of public safety, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has mandated that all customers affected by routine maintenance or emergency repairs of the water systems by notified of these actions. We will be conducting fire hydrant flushing during the month of July. Flushing can possibly result in lead particles being released into the water. Our water supply has been tested by the IEPA and it does not contain lead, but there is a possibility that our system or your household plumbing does. Low pressure and discolored water may be experienced in all areas of town. The IEPA recommends flusing water from any tap used for drinking or cooking for three minutes and the water is cold or reaches a steady temperature. This is a precautionary measure. Do not boil the water unless you are notified of a boil order. We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur during this time. If you have any questions, please contact your Alderperson.
Public Notice - Water Treatment Plant
4/16/2025
You may have noticed some construction activity around our City! We are currently making improvements to the water systerm. Improvements include construction of a new Water Treatment Plant south of town, construct 8" raw watermain and extend to new Water Plant, construct 6" and 8" watermain from new Water Treatment Plant to connect to the distribution system. Funding for this project is provided by a low-interest loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's Public Water Supply Loan Program (PWSLP). The PWSLP is funded by both state and federal resources. The $4,005,517.92 loan comes with a principal forgiveness grant of $2,843,917.72 that will reduce the loan and has an interest rate of 1.00% to be repaid over 30 years. Additionally, the City has received a USEPA STAG earmark grant in the amount of $1,965,040.00. For more information, please contact City Hall.

The watermain will be installed by the City Water Department starting the week of June 24th, weather permitting. The road is scheduled to be finished by the end of August with the concrete v-gutter curb going out for bids right away. Gas, electric, and fiber optic lines will be laid when the road is complete.
