The City of Assumption will be under a boil order notice until further notice. The Water Department was required to replace roughly 30 feet of water main pipe. Under normal circumstances, the City would be able to localize the boil order to only affected customers in the area. In this instance, the setion of piple that was replaced was the main discharge line for the town's water treatment facility. Although the work was done with water service lost to only 2 customers, the state still requires a town wide boil order due to the location of the pipe replacement. Please contact Jack Duncan, Water Superintendent, at 217-820-0914 for additional information. Thank you! Water Department

Boil Order Notice:
The City of Assumption is under a boil order. The boil order is due to a loss of pressure due to a water main break. The section of pipe replaced remained isolated from the system until the next day. When water loses pressure it increase the chance of untreated water and harmful microbes can enter your water. Harmful microbes is drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems. But theses symptoms are not just caused by microbes in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persists, you should seek medical advice.
What is being done?
The City has replaced a section of pipe on the main discharge line from the water treatment plant. It is likely that you will need to boil water for the next 24 hours until one sample set comes back clean. You will be informed when tests show that you no longer need to boil your water.
